Loyalty to small town business

“Lack of loyalty is one of the major causes of failure in every walk of life”

Loyalty is faithfulness or a devotion to a person, country, group, or cause. There are many aspects to loyalty. The one I have mind is that being loyal to your community and the small businesses there.

Think about it for a moment and take a look at what you and others around you are doing. I’m sure most of you haven’t given it much thought before. But without the support of friends, family, and other people in a community, a small business doesn’t have much chance for survival in a small town nowadays.

I can relate to this. I grew up in a small farming community. The little town was developed around a courthouse square… typical of lots of little towns in Southwest Georgia. At one time there were 9 grocery stores, 2 drug stores, 2 hardware stores, a theater, 4 dry goods stores, a doctor’s office, 4 service stations, and more that surrounded the courthouse. Business was good for each. Of course, they each had their “loyal” customers.

Then I remember oh so well when the first Walmart came into the area. Stores began to close! Those so-called “loyal” customers flocked to the city to shop. Afterall, they could buy it so much cheaper. But the one thing that most forgot… that little small town business had let them have what they need on credit. That little small town business often delivered to their door. That little small town business often repaired or replaced… That little small town business owner was your FRIEND!
