3 tbsp shortening or margarine
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup boiling water


Cream together shortening/margarine and sugar
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with 1/2 cup of milk
Fold in 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Put batter into ungreased 9-inch baking
Mix together brown sugar, cocoa, and salt
Sprinkle over top of batter. Do not stir. Pour 1-1/2 cups boiling water
over all
Bake at 350 degree F for 40 to 45 minutes
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Best served warm.
